Master Debaters

First there was the Homestead.

Then Meet the Press on NBC (Sunday September 17th)

Then there will be the Fairfax CofC (Monday, September 18th)

And this evening I was e-mailed this. (Monday, October 9th)

I'm glad we're avoiding all of the nonsense over "ducking" debates from last year. I'm glad the candidates have agreed that getting in front of the people of Virginia is a good and proper thing to do. Let's hope the future debates are a little more entertaining than the ones we've already seen (don't forget about ones during the primary!).

Well, Something Finally Happened...

I guess this is why they have trackers...

Stupidity has a name right now, and his name is George Felix Allen.

In case you haven't seen the macaca incident is making all sorts of waves in the race. I saw an interesting piece on CNN today. Pretty much tore him to shreds.

This is bad for Allen. He'll still win, but stupid things like this (intentional or not) are pretty much the only thing that can bring him down. This isn't Watergate, but it is something voters will remember. I imagine the Webb campaign is organizing a flier targeting black communities as we speak (well, if their campaign wasn't so disorganized...).

On another note, if things like this are going to become news, why won't the campaigns invest $40 on a tripod? It makes video watchable, and then they might be able to use the video in an ad without it looking like a bad home movie, no matter how good the material is.

Another Post You Won't Read...

Ok, so nobody really cares how long bloggers have been in the business. Despite our self-important and grandiose notions that we're changing the world, we're really not doing squat.

Ok, maybe we're reconfirming the suspicions of our readers about their political points of view. But really, what's the difference between yelling at the TV, and arguing on the blogosphere? Well, I guess in the blogosphere you can see what you said once you sober up.

So, a year and half a month after I started this trite little project, I reflect back on why I do this on occasion.

Some do it for fame.

Some do it for money.

Others do it for wine and women (or men, not that there's anything wrong with that...)

I do it to vent.

My current job gives me a great deal of freedom with words, but in a very structured environment. I don't always feel like writing once I get home. I don't always have something to say (unlike others), but when I do, I try to make a point. I don't get into fractious and fruitless arguments, or get myself into too much trouble.

So on my year-plus anniversary of blogging, all I can hope is that you've read my stuff and chuckled. Or better yet, come up with an original thought for yourself.

And no, I'm not giving up on my secret identity either. Much has been made about the "Nots". Not Larry Sabato, Not Gretchen Bulova, Not etc. etc.

Some have opened up and revealed themselves as if they were superheros pulling back the mask... But I'm Not Guy Incognito, and I'm sticking with it.
