Is This Going to be the Next "Craney Island" Moment?

While everybody's talking about who said what when, this slipped by in the Senate.
While the Webb campaign is probably focused on racism, they'd better be doing their homework about what's going on in the Senate, because the next televised debate is coming up soon. And it includes a segment where the candidates will be asking each other questions.

Webb was thoroughly embarrassed during the Virginia Bar Association debate at The Homestead earlier, and I know that the Allen folks would love to hit him again on statewide TV.

I have a gut feeling we'll be hearing more about this pre-texting bill.

You're welcome.

From Macaca to This

I just can't stand when people say "the n-word". What do they mean? Night? Nickel? Nincompoop? There are quite a few n-words, so let's be clear what we're talking about.

"Nigger" n : (ethnic slur) extremely offensive name for a Black person

There, I said it. It is just another word in the English language in this context. I'm talking about a slur, and not directing it to anybody. Weakening the word by saying "the n-word" in this context does a disservice to all who fought for equality. It clouds the issue, and is not forthright about what's being said. Let's be real folks, and say exactly what we mean.

I propose as a substitute: n****r. I think that conveys the meaning if you don't wish to type out those six letters in that particular combination.

Case in point:

"No Viet-Cong ever called me an n-word" (Cassius Clay) just doesn't carry the same meaning as "No Viet-Cong ever called me a n****r."

George Allen and Dick Wadhams have both said George never, ever, in his lifetime, said the word "nigger". Several people disagree.

The campaign had better be right, because somewhere, sombody probably has it on tape. The campaign better find these people before they come forward, or before the Webb campaign finds them.

Me? I have a sneaking suspicion a tape will surface.

After the mess macaca caused, how do you think that would play out?
